Breast augmentation with autologous fat
Dr. med. Thomas Biesgen
Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in Zurich.
Decision for breast augmentation
Every woman has her own story and reasons for wanting a breast augmentation. Often it is for aesthetic reasons. If there are hardly any breasts or after a pregnancy.
Breast implants can be placed directly behind the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle to improve the size and shape of the breast. Breast augmentation can achieve the following goals:
- Enlargement and fullness of the breast
- Correction of asymmetrical breasts
- Improve your self-confidence
A fuller and more voluptuous breast can be achieved with breast augmentation. In the case of sagging breasts, a combined breast lift and augmentation should be discussed.
During the consultation, Dr. Biesgen will fully inform you about your questions regarding breast augmentation, the procedure, possible complications and feasibility. He works with the latest generation of silicone implants from the world's leading manufacturers.

Breast augmentation with autologous fat
for smaller augmentations and optical corrections
Breast augmentation with autologous fat is a gentle alternative to breast augmentation with implants. An important prerequisite for breast augmentation with autologous fat is the presence of sufficient endogenous fat deposits (e.g. on the hips, abdomen, legs). Accordingly, volume augmentation with autologous fat is unsuitable for very slim women because no excess fat reserves are available.
For breast augmentation with autologous fat, fatty tissue is suctioned from existing fat deposits in the body. After careful preparation, the fat cells are injected in small quantities in several places around the breast.
It should be noted that 40-60% of the fat remains after a fat injection into the breast. The remainder is absorbed by the body within 2 to 3 months. To achieve the desired volume, 2 to 3 sessions are therefore required.
This method is well suited to women who want a moderate breast augmentation of half a cup to a whole cup size. It is also possible for women who already have a silicone implant to have additional fat injections or to switch to an autologous fat breast augmentation.
Procedure for breast augmentation with autologous fat (breast surgery)
Breast augmentation with autologous fat injections is usually performed on an outpatient basis in twilight sleep (or under general anesthesia if desired) and takes between 1-2 hours.
In the first phase, Dr. Biesgen uses liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue from suitable areas, such as the thighs or abdomen.
In a second phase, the fat cells are carefully cleaned and prepared using an innovative special procedure. The cells are injected into the breast using particularly fine cannulas. The preparation and injection techniques make it possible for around 60 percent of the fat cells to heal permanently in the breast.
It is important to assess the individual skin and breast conditions before the procedure. This will of course be discussed with you in detail during the consultation.
You should allow 1-2 days to recover from work. Every patient reacts differently to surgery. You may be able to return to work earlier, but a few days should be planned as a recovery phase. You should also avoid sport for the next 4 weeks. Avoid pressure on the breast so that the fat cells can grow in unhindered.
So far, studies on breast augmentation with autologous fat have shown no negative effects on the breast and no increased incidence of breast cancer.

The cost of breast augmentation can vary depending on the extent of the procedure. The exact procedure and cost will be discussed and defined in detail with the patient during the consultation.
The fee includes the consultation, use of the operating room and materials, anesthesia, implant, as well as the fee for the procedure and aftercare. The cost is to be understood as a flat rate per case and must be paid in advance.
As breast augmentation is an aesthetic procedure, the costs must be borne by the patient. As a rule, health insurance companies do not cover the costs.
